Wind Storm

Yesterday I was stuck inside the van all day through a wind storm. It wouldn’t be Quartzsite without them. I managed to partially break down camp and toss things in the trailer, like my shade cloth, before they got blown away. My rug is staked down, so that got to stay out. While annoying, I’d rather deal with that than extreme cold, and unlike snow, you don’t have to shovel it afterward. So not a lot went on yesterday. Even the Meet in Q Halloween party was postponed from last night until tonight as a result. Ironically, this means I could’ve taken my time getting here and gotten my costume in time after all, but nobody knew it was going to work out that way. My costume is simple, and something that strikes fear and terror into any vehicle dweller: a check engine light.

I spent much of the weekend catching up on the work I let sit while working on the trailer, then driving last week. Naturally, a bunch of extra work came in from ADVRider, too, since one of the regular writers is out of commission. I have one article left to write for them, and one more to edit for WikiMotive by the end of the month, which is the end of tomorrow. So I’ll be fine.

I’m looking forward to seeing a bunch more of my desert friends over the next couple of days (Meet in Q party tonight, Lit Cactus tomorrow) and catching up on our adventures this past year. I’m sure I’ll make some new friends as well. I always do, because that’s the kind of place this is.

I’m still adjusting to my summer travels being over, and transitioning into sitting (mostly) still for the winter mode. I’m starting to look ahead at other things I want to accomplish soon, like choosing a new mail forwarding service (my previous one has gotten pretty bad and there are some new options in town) and transferring my van’s registration from Florida to Arizona, where it belongs along with my bike and driver’s license. So far, I’ve succeeded in not getting overwhelmed by it all. There’s a lot to do, but I have time, months rather than weeks or days, so it’s okay.
