Hunkering Down

We had a couple of nice days with calm winds, but a quick storm is rolling through right now, blowing hard and stirring up lots of dust. Temperatures are cool enough that I can leave the van all sealed up, roof vent and all, without overheating to keep as much dust out as possible. After a little bit of outdoor exploring, Lister decided he didn’t like the wind, came inside, and fell asleep. This was after chasing around some blowing bits of floating ash from the fire pit, which I wasn’t fast enough to capture in photos or video.

I did capture us enjoying yesterday’s sunset, though. Except for the wind from time to time, the weather here has been rather good. I saw 39º on my outdoor thermometer when I woke up yesterday, but my heater has no problem keeping up and making it quite comfortable inside. I could camp out in far colder weather if I wanted to, but I don’t.

Suddenly, work has picked up again. The gig that cut my work for them in half the past two months, and for the foreseeable future, just asked if I could not cut my work for them after all, at least for this month. I’d started this month’s work for them, but at a much slower pace, since there wasn’t as much work to do at first. With 10 days of the month already behind me, I need to kick up the pace to make up lost time and give them what they want. I can definitely do it, though. It’s just a matter of time management each day for the rest of the month. Since I’m sitting still rather than traveling, I have the time to spare right now. But if you don’t see me post as much here for the rest of the month, this is why, as well as not having too many adventures while sitting still.

The timing of this is rather ironic because I’ve just planned out a new writing project to fill the time my reduced work for this particular client left open. I’m all fired up to jump into this project, only now I have to pump the brakes and go back to the work that will definitely pay. I’d also been pondering making more YouTube videos, but once again, the work that pays takes priority, and that’s not YouTube.

The wind just kicked up another few notches, and now I have to go chase down and put away my stepstool that I leave next to the side door. Welcome to southern Arizona in January. At least I don’t have to shovel the wind when the storm is over.
