Sick Days

This picture is from when I went kayaking on Wednesday, back to Cottage Grove Lake but launching from a different place for a change of scenery. It was a pleasant paddle, but unfortunately, it was the last bit of pleasantness I’ve enjoyed since then.

I felt weak and achy afterward, but I assumed I’d just had a decent workout, using muscles I don’t normally use that way. Instead of getting better overnight, I got worse. I had no energy and my entire body was in pain, including my legs which I didn’t even use on the kayak. I haven’t worked or even turned on my laptop until now. Thursday was the worst day, but my recovery is progressing quite slowly, certainly slower than I’d like. I wanted to ride my bike to Joyce’s book signing about an hour north of here today, but although the weather is absolutely perfect for that, I’m not feeling well enough to try. Sorry, Joyce.

By a strange coincidence, Chrome and I happened to get sick at exactly the same time. Possibly even with the same thing, for all I know. Maybe he gave it to me. Internet viruses are a thing, right? His video description really says it all.

“Being sick in a camper van is no different than being sick in a traditional home. Ya just curl up in bed and get some rest. Same Same Same.”

Fortunately, if this was going to happen, I couldn’t be in a better place for it. The weather is great, not too hot, not too cold. (Some overnights have been chilly, but my heater fixed that quickly.) I’m all set up at my friends’ place, a safe spot where I can stay as long as I want or need to. They’ve been checking up on me. I’m sure they’d run to the store and pick stuff up for me if I asked them to, but I have everything I need. To top it all off, one of my friends I’m staying with is a doctor, which is why they have such a beautiful place that they are kind enough to share with me. It’s the best possible outcome of a bad situation.

There’s not much else to say, because there’s nothing else going on. I’m mainly posting this to let the world know I’m not quite dead. Travel plans are on hold until I’m feeling better, both locally and on the final leg of the Big Loop back to Arizona.
