Last week, the Homes On Wheels Alliance coordinated a group of volunteers to clean up the BLM land many of us are camping on just outside of town. I had to work in the morning, but I managed to join them and help out a bit. My bike was very useful for running up and down the road, and my motorcycle riding gear doubled as personal protective equipment for moving old building materials around. BLM donated a huge dumpster, which we filled in half a day.
It was a real eye opener for me to see just how much crud people leave out here. Much of the dumpster got filled with the remains of a single abandoned shed, which should never have been built out here on public land in the first place. There will be additional cleanup events throughout April. I need to move on from Pahrump, but I’m glad I was able to help out a little, both as a camper and as a biker who enjoys this land in both capacities.
