We’re doing it again! I just got confirmation today that I’ll once again be teaching a class at the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous about how to get online from the road. We’ll go over where to find free WiFi, using your phone as a hotspot, and standalone cellular hotspots, just like last year. I’m also adding a new section all about Starlink, which wasn’t available at the time of the last RTR. Unlike my Overland Expo presentation all about it, this will simply cover the basics, such as the cost, how it works, and how well it works. There will be time for questions from the audience as well, and last year I spent quite a while continuing to answer questions after the class was officially over.
When and where? The RTR will take place once again at the town park in Quartzsite, Arizona, from January 13-20, 2023. The official schedule hasn’t been posted yet, but I can tell you I’m scheduled to speak on Thursday, January 19, at 10:00 am.
This is actually going to be much easier for me to put together and present than last year. All I need to do is take last year’s RTR presentation, tack on bits and pieces from my Overland Expo talk, and bam, it’s done. I’ve also had a bit more practice speaking in situations like this, so it won’t be quite as nerve-wracking as doing this for the first time. It should be fun.
